Dr. Jane Park is a leading authority in radiology, molecular physiology and biophysics. A 57-year research and educational veteran at Vanderbilt University Medical School, she Dr. Park worked in the department of Drs. Carl and Gerty Cori, two Nobel Peace Prize winners who significantly advanced clinical medicine through basic biochemistry studies. With them, she studied enzymes pertaining to exercise and muscle function, the chemical mechanisms for energy production, and to use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in clinical studies of muscle diseases. Dr. Park continues to make important findings in the areas of muscle degeneration and regeneration, as well as muscle diseases. Using high technology MRI, MRS and electron paramagnetic resonance procedures, she has coordinated basic biochemical findings in muscle contraction and physical activities that will be used toward the possible treatment of such diseases. Dr. Park maintains a tenured professorship at Vanderbilt University. She teaches research students, works to improve MRI and spectroscopy techniques, and continues to publish in books and journals.
